Dear Friend,

Profound changes are underway throughout NYIT. Our physical campuses, online initiatives and academic programs are dynamic, evolving and primed for a level of success previously unseen during NYIT's 48-year history. In short, we are uniquely positioned to fulfill the 21st-century needs of our students, who truly benefit from your ongoing support.

You may not know our 11,000 students by name, but your generosity over the past 12 months has influenced their lives. Through the Partners Fund and annual events like the Gold Coast Food & Wine Classic, your contributions directly empower our students, more than 80 percent of whom depend on some form of financial aid during their academic pursuits at NYIT.

Despite the challenging economy, we have planned and completed major improvements across our campuses that will carry our students and NYIT forward for years to come. We've installed six miles of fiber-optic cable throughout our Old Westbury and Central Islip campuses. We've fired up a network that is one of the fastest digital pipelines on the East Coast, capable of carrying data, voice and video transmissions at speeds that were unattainable a few years ago. We've introduced our students, faculty and staff to broadband wireless Internet access. And we've added 60,000 square feet of space to our Manhattan campus.

We have a new Office of Global Programs. We've reconstituted and staffed our Office of Sponsored Programs and Research. We've engaged a new vice president for student affairs, several new deans and many other professionals. We've also witnessed a transition in the deanship of NYIT's New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM)--one of the nation's largest and most successful medical schools.

Our talented students continue to excel in our classrooms, on our playing fields and in the marketplace. For example, our communication arts students recently won a New York Emmy Award and several other prominent awards; men's lacrosse won the NCAA Division II National Championship; and our architecture students have unveiled moving, inspirational designs for the World Trade Center site that were seen by thousands of viewers on news broadcasts from CBS, CNN and FOX, and featured in Architectural Digest.

The accomplishments of our faculty, staff and students are generating strong rankings in such national publications as U.S. News & World Report. This is the fifth consecutive year that we've achieved the magazine's "Tier 2" ranking.

We're proud of our progress, but we have even higher hopes for the future and continue to operate NYIT with four overriding goals: Improve academic quality and program development; strengthen recruitment, retention and student life; enhance the college's image; and improve NYIT's financial condition and strengthen administrative services. In the pages ahead, we highlight our progress toward fulfilling each of these goals.

Thank you once again for your steadfast commitment to NYIT as we embark on the most exciting period in this college's history.
